It’s been a while, I’m here at last

Unfortunately, due to my crazy schedule that I’ve run myself through over the past few months, I’ve had little to no time to shoot or schedule a shoot; edit anything; or, just outright, blog about it.

First, the graduate and puppy:

My Dad just graduated from the Royal Roads University with a Masters of Arts in Disaster and Emergency Management, we call him MADEM. Second, my sister surprised him with a visit from Calgary and she brought her 11 week old puppy Siesta.

The next couple of pictures are just some crazy high ISO shots from a birthday party that I attended the following night:

Pricing for Spring and Summer for Kerr Photography is now available. Prices and packages are available for Graduation and Prom photos, Family portraits and Weddings. I am available for other photographic work as well so please contact me with your request. Please note that grad/prom pictures don’t have to be taken on the day of your graduation or prom.
Remember, if you do want to book an event or prom or graduation date, send me an email or call me (250-888-0051) at least a month or two before that date so that you can ensure that date is reserved for you.

On Saturday, February 20th, Dab Studio will be hosting another Dab Acoustic Night. This is a night that features local musicians and artists brought together for an all round good time. I encourage anyone who is interested in anything artistic to come by Dab, located at 602 Esquimalt Road around 8:00pm. I’ll be hanging some work there and enjoying the music that night. The night is a by donation entrance, so donate what you can and enjoy some of Victoria’s talent. Some of the artists that will be attending are (in no particular order):

Yield

A couple of days ago, I happened upon a blog writer named Russel. He writes two blogs, one is the reviews of upcoming and past movies and the other is a review of customer service in Victoria, British Columbia. I sat up one night, browsing through all of the movie trailers that he had posted on his blog and came across the trailer to One Week. This movie is one one that I wanted to see when I first heard about it. Never had the opportunity to sit down with it though. That is, until last night.

I’ve seen previews for this film. I’ve watched interviews with George Strombolopolous and Joshua Jackson. Nothing compares to sitting down, either by yourself or with a loved one, and watching this movie. If you are Canadian, watch this movie. If you’re not Canadian, it doesn’t matter. This film, is about inspiration. This film is about love and this film is not about a man dying of cancer. (If I’ve already convinced you of watching this movie, be warned, there may be a spoiler or two in this post. Nothing serious, but just to warn you.)
Recently, I’ve been feeling like inspiration is something that you shouldn’t wait for. It’s not running around in this world looking for you. Just so that you can take a picture of it and slap it in a magazine. You can’t step in to your backyard and expect to find brilliance. Well, maybe you can, but you still have to go outside and look for it. To quote the narrator of the film:

What would you do if you knew you only had one day, or one week, or one month to live. What life boat would you grab on to? What secret would you tell? What band would you see? What person would you declare your love to? What wish would you fulfil? What exotic locale would you fly to for coffee? What book would you write?

Would you go out and look for your inspiration? The thing that makes you tick? This movie made me want to buy a motorcycle (and travel east) but it also made me want to do so much more. Life is for living in the now. What better way to live it then to do what you love? This isn’t a movie review, although I do rate it highly. This is a statement that everyone, regardless of age or occupation, should see their goals completed, their dreams fulfilled, and grab their life boat. One more thing to wrap this up, one last quote from this movie:

To strive, to seek, to find,

and not to yield.

Brand New Gallery

I’ve just created a new gallery on my website designed specifically for pictures that I’ve taken on my mobile phone. Most of the pictures were photographed with my Nokia 6300 and then post processed in Adobe Lightroom. Some of the processing was done in camera with features like: false colours, which creates a cross processed feel; negative; and solarize. The camera itself is only 2 megapixels and has no focus, exposure or depth of field control. I like that, it gives more chance for creativity. It does have a decent zoom, but it’s all digital and I prefer to shoot with a fixed focal length anyways.

I really like the feel out of some of the pictures that I get and I try to emphasize the blown out, over saturated colour quality that is found on toy cameras. The camera is always on me so, if I find something worth sharing, you can bet it’s going to be in the album. You can view the album on my website www.kerrphotography.ca
